Is inZOI like Lagos Life?

Both are life simulations: you make a character and live out a life that includes a home, work and other people. Almost everything else differs. inZOI is a paid, installed game for Windows and Mac, and its Steam page describes realistic 3D graphics powered by Unreal Engine 5 and characters, called Zois, who live “with their own free will” while you control and observe them. Lagos Life is a free browser game set in shared Nigerian cities, where the other characters are real players.

How much does each game cost?

Lagos Life is free to start. It also sells optional Game Naira for real money, and its Terms of Use say that money cannot be withdrawn or exchanged back into real money.

inZOI costs money. Steam lists it in US dollars, and its Steam page marks it as Early Access, which means the developer is still adding to the game. We do not convert the price into naira here, because exchange rates change and Steam sets its own regional prices. Steam also runs sales, and the store page shows what you would pay.

What does your device need to run each game?

Lagos Life runs in a web browser on a phone or a computer. We found no Lagos Life app in the App Store or Google Play, and our install guide shows how to add the web game to your home screen. We found no RAM or graphics-card figure on the official site.

inZOI asks more of the machine. On Windows, Steam’s minimum is 12 GB of RAM, a graphics card of at least an NVIDIA RTX 2060 or an AMD RX 5600 XT, 40 GB of free space and a broadband connection. Its recommended level is higher: 16 GB of RAM, a graphics card of at least an RTX 3070 or an RX 6800 XT, and 60 GB of space. On Mac, Steam’s minimum is an Apple M1 chip, 16 GB of RAM and macOS 15. If a phone is the only device you have, Lagos Life is the one you can start today.

Who do you play with?

Steam lists inZOI as single-player. It also has a sharing platform called Canvas, where you can show your characters, homes and stories and find ideas from other creators. The game itself is not described as a shared city.

How do you make a character in each game?

In Lagos Life you build your Sim in five steps: Look, Personality, Dream, Birth lottery and Home. The Birth lottery step decides your start, and our LAPO and Nepo section shows what each result gives you.

inZOI’s page lists over 250 customisation options for a Zoi, from hair, skin and physique to outfits, accessories and nail art. It also lists building tools for walls, roofs, stairs and fences, and on-device generative AI tools for making patterns and objects. That is a different kind of creator from a short sign-up flow, and the page is where to see it.

Which should you play first?

Lagos Life is free, so you lose nothing by trying it first.

• Start with Lagos Life if you want a free game in your browser tonight, set in Lagos, with real players, or if your device cannot run PC games.
• Start with inZOI if you have a PC or a Mac that meets Steam’s minimum and want a bigger, paid sim with a character creator and building tools.
