What is the difference between Lagos Life and BitLife?

Both games let you live a made-up life, but they work in different ways. In Lagos Life you create a Sim in a shared Lagos and look after it in your browser: you keep six needs up, work shifts on the real Lagos clock and pay rent every week. In BitLife you live one life from start to finish on your phone, and each tap chooses what happens next.

How does a session feel in each game?

How a session differs: Lagos Life runs on the Lagos clock with needs, shifts and rent, BitLife is a story told one tap at a time

In Lagos Life you look after your Sim: eat, travel and work a shift. Shifts follow the real Lagos clock and happen at fixed hours. Pay comes per shift, and rent is charged per week. The jobs and salaries guide shows what each career pays, and the homes and rent guide shows what a week costs.

BitLife’s own site describes a different rhythm: own your life one tap at a time, and every choice makes a difference. Its App Store page says choices stack up year after year, across education, careers and relationships. That is what the game says about itself. We have not played it for this page.

Which one should you play?

Both are free to try, and you can have both, because they are separate games with separate accounts.

  • Pick Lagos Life if you want a world you share with other real players, on a clock that follows Lagos, with money, rent and travel to manage.
  • Pick BitLife if you want one life to play through on your own, from your phone’s app store.
