Lagos Life Game Promotion: Ranks, Grades and Pay Raises
Promotion in Lagos Life Game runs on two ladders. Inside a rank you climb four grades for 5% more pay each; a rank promotion needs performance 100, the shifts listed in the ladder, a skill level, and higher up Lagos Rep and days in post. Most jobs use skill levels 1, 3, 5, 7.

How does promotion work in Lagos Life Game?
Promotion in Lagos Life Game runs on two ladders at the same time, and mixing them up is the usual reason people think the game is not letting them climb.
- Grades run inside one rank. Every rank is split into four grades, I to IV. Grades I, II and III pay 5% steps below the rank’s full amount, and grade IV pays it in full. Only a player at grade IV is considered for the next rank.
- Ranks are the titles. Rank 1 is where you are hired, rank 5 is the top of that career. Leaving a rank needs performance, shifts and a skill level; from the second step up it also wants Lagos Rep, and from the third step up days in post.
Win 4 mini-tasks in one shift and you are Employee of the shift, which adds 15% to that shift’s pay. It is worth doing anyway: the task results are also what raise the performance score below.
What does each promotion need?
Every step has a fixed set of requirements, and they get heavier as you climb. Only the last one adds a person: the board interview.

| Step | Shifts at the title | Skill level | Lagos Rep | Days in post | Extra |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rank 1 → 2 | 1 | yes | — | — | — |
| Rank 2 → 3 | 2 | yes | 3 | — | — |
| Rank 3 → 4 | 2 | yes | 6 | 14 | — |
| Rank 4 → 5 | 3 | yes | 10 | 21 | board interview |
Performance must be 100 at every one of those steps, and your grade must already be IV. Before grade IV, the shift counter and performance are the whole test. At grade IV the game checks everything at once, so a rank can sit waiting on a skill level, a Rep level or a stretch of days rather than on your work.
Two of the requirements are easy to misread. Skill level applies at every step, including rank 1 → 2: a first promotion can be blocked by a skill you have not trained yet. Lagos Rep applies from the second step up — it is a city-wide score the game keeps separately from your job, and this page only reports the level each step asks for. Days in post are calendar days, so a career with six shifts a week clears them sooner than one with five.
What skill level does each promotion need?
Skill that counts is different for every career: Coding pushes Tech and Product Management, Charisma pushes Banking and Broadcasting, and so on. Here is the level each step asks for, for every live Lagos career.
| Career | Skill that counts | Rank 1 to 2 | Rank 2 to 3 | Rank 3 to 4 | Rank 4 to 5 | Top-rank pay |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Music | Music | 1 | 3 | 5 | 7 | ₦99,000 |
| DJ | Music | 1 | 3 | 5 | 7 | ₦93,000 |
| Product Management Own ladder | Charisma | 4 | 5 | 7 | 9 | ₦92,000 |
| Content Creator | Charisma | 1 | 3 | 5 | 7 | ₦90,000 |
| Medicine Own ladder | Fitness | 4 | 5 | 7 | 9 | ₦90,000 |
| Real Estate Own ladder | Charisma | 4 | 5 | 7 | 9 | ₦88,000 |
| Broadcasting Own ladder | Comedy | 4 | 5 | 7 | 9 | ₦84,000 |
| Tech | Coding | 1 | 3 | 5 | 7 | ₦76,500 |
| Civil Service Own ladder | Hustle | 4 | 5 | 7 | 9 | ₦76,000 |
| Nursing | Fitness | 1 | 3 | 5 | 7 | ₦75,000 |
| Event Planning | Hustle | 1 | 3 | 5 | 7 | ₦75,000 |
| Law | Charisma | 1 | 3 | 5 | 7 | ₦75,000 |
| Banking | Charisma | 1 | 3 | 5 | 7 | ₦72,000 |
| Football | Charisma | 1 | 3 | 5 | 7 | ₦72,000 |
| Chef | Cooking | 1 | 3 | 5 | 7 | ₦70,500 |
| Fitness Coach | Fitness | 1 | 3 | 5 | 7 | ₦69,000 |
| Hairstyling | Hustle | 1 | 3 | 5 | 7 | ₦67,500 |
| Trading | Hustle | 1 | 3 | 5 | 7 | ₦63,000 |
| Teaching | Charisma | 1 | 3 | 5 | 7 | ₦63,000 |
| Retail | Charisma | 1 | 3 | 5 | 7 | ₦60,000 |
The four middle columns are skill levels. Most jobs use 1, 3, 5, 7; the ones marked "Own ladder" ask for more.

Most jobs never name a ladder at all, and the game then applies its own default of 1, 3, 5, 7. That is why so many rows in the table read the same. The jobs marked “Own ladder” ask for a higher skill at every step, and they are the ones where a slow skill level, not performance, is what holds you at a rank.
What are the grades inside a rank?
The grade system is the part most players miss. You are hired at grade I of rank 1, not at the rank’s full pay, and the four grades step up in 5% slices until grade IV pays the whole amount.

Take Banking rank 1, the Marketer job. The table on the jobs and salaries guide prints the rank’s full pay, ₦11,600 a shift, because that is the amount the rank is worth. In practice the same job pays ₦10,100 at grade I, ₦10,600 at grade II, ₦11,100 at grade III and ₦11,600 at grade IV. Each step is rounded down to a round hundred, so the game’s own figure, not our arithmetic, is the one to trust.
Does a promotion raise your pay?
Yes, on both ladders, and the two raises stack:
- A grade step adds 5% of the rank’s pay.
- A rank promotion moves you to the next title’s pay — and restarts you at grade I of that rank, because a new rank begins its own four grades.
A promotion itself always pays more than the grade IV shift you left: Banking grade IV at rank 1 pays ₦11,600 a shift, and rank 2 starts at ₦18,300. What you do lose is the top of the old rank — the new rank begins its own climb, so you will pass that rank 1 figure again on the way back up. The top rank is the exception: there is nowhere to be promoted to, so it pays its full amount at every grade.
What is the board interview in Lagos Life Game?
The last step, rank 4 to rank 5, is the only one with a person in the way. Once performance, shifts, skill, Rep and days in post are all satisfied, the game sends you to a board interview, and the board can say no.
If it does, your performance is capped at 80 and the board sees you again in 3 days. Nothing else is lost — no pay cut, no reset of the counters. Treat it as a checkpoint to rebuild performance, not a failure state.
How do you keep your performance score up?
Performance is a 0–100 score on your current job. It rises from task results during a shift, and the client resets it to 45 after a promotion and 60 after a grade step, so it is never a one-off grind.
- Turn up early. Arriving before the rush adds performance on its own. The game shows the notice when it happens.
- Win the tasks you take. A task resolved well adds performance; the ones you fail take some back.
- Pass work over rather than forcing it. Handing a task to a coworker still adds a little performance, which is the safe play when a task looks like a bad fit.
- Watch the skill that counts. Higher skill improves your odds on that career’s tasks, so a promotion is partly a skill project.
If you are choosing a career at all, the pay at the top matters less than the ladder underneath it. The jobs and salaries guide has the pay per shift at every rank, how to make money has the Rep side and the businesses that fund the wait, and how to play shows where the work screen sits in a normal day.
Frequently asked questions
How do you get promoted in Lagos Life Game?
Two things happen at once. Inside a rank you step through four grades for 5% more pay each, and only at grade IV does the game consider the next rank. A rank promotion needs performance 100, the shifts listed on this page for that step, and a skill level; from the second step up it also wants a Lagos Rep level, and from the third step up a number of days in post.
What performance score do you need for a promotion?
100 out of 100. Performance is reset to 45 when you are promoted and 60 when you go up a grade, so you build it back up each time.
Do you need a skill level to be promoted in Lagos Life Game?
From the third step up, yes. Skill that counts is listed for every career in the table above. Most jobs use the 1, 3, 5, 7 ladder; the jobs marked Own ladder ask for more.
What happens if the Lagos Life board turns you down?
The last step, from rank 4 to rank 5, goes through a board interview. If the board says no, your performance is capped at 80 and the board sees you again in 3 days.
Does a promotion raise your pay in Lagos Life Game?
Yes, twice over. Each grade inside a rank pays 5% more than the one below, and reaching a new rank moves you to that rank's pay. A promotion restarts you at grade I of the new rank, which is why the first shifts after a promotion pay less than the rank's full amount.
